Concept: Flex Teams and Flex Team Roles
Flex teams enable organizations to create cross-functional teams across internal boundaries. Workers with hard-to-find skills and capabilities join a short-term engagement to work on projects with variable commitments. You can quickly organize and develop flex teams for high priority needs, while further enabling and upskilling your workforce.
When Workday suggests flex teams or flex team roles to workers, and workers to flex team hosts, Workday compares the skills on the flex team or flex team role to the skills on the worker's profile. Workday uses machine learning to identify workers' skills that match the skills on the flex team or flex team role, and provides a match strength of Strong, Good, or Fair. The match strength is based on the proportion of the worker skills that are an exact match, are synonymous with, or are similar to, the skills on the flex team or flex team role.
Administrators and flex team hosts can create both simple and advanced flex teams:
- Simple flex teams are flex teams without roles. This team type is composed of broadly skilled members.
- Advanced flex teams are flex teams comprised of roles. This flex team consists of workers with defined, explicit skills. Flex team hosts define the types of work, or roles, needed for the flex team, and specify the skills required for each role. Assigned to roles, flex team members work toward the same goals and milestones outlined by the flex team host. A maximum of 10 roles are allowed on an advanced flex team.
The simple flex team process is the flex teams experience that has existed since the Flex Teams application has been available to customers. Simple flex teams remain available for organizations that want to continue using their current framework and internal processes.
With advanced flex teams, hosts see improved machine learning candidate recommendations when managing and staffing the flex team, enabling them to create highly skilled cross-functional teams.
Flex team candidates receive Career Hub and Opportunity Marketplace flex team recommendations that align with their skills, and can express interest in a specific role. Flex team roles enable workers to focus their efforts on pursuing specific opportunities with the skills they need to advance to the next stage in their career.
