Example Steps: Create Student Registration-Based Fees

This example illustrates how to set up fee calculations based on the amount of the student's registered units.
You're an administrator at Alma Mater University. You want to create fee calculations based on the total number of units that an undergraduate student registers for in the Fall 2023 semester.
Your institution charges tuition based on the number of units registered. The rates are:
Load
Rate
Part time (<12 hours)
300 per hour
Full time (12-18 hours)
5000 flat rate
Overload (>18 hours)
5000 flat rate, plus 300 for every hour over 18 hours
Security:
  • Set Up: Student Charges
     domain in the Student Financials functional area.
  • Manage: Student Charge Processing
     domain in the Student Financials functional area.
  1. Access the
    Create Charge Adjustment Schedule Group
     task.
    1. Enter these values:

    2. Click

  2. Access the
    Create Charge Adjustment Schedule for Academic Year
     task.
    1. Enter these values:

    2. Click

    3. On the next page, enter these values:

    Create Charge Assessment Schedule
     task.

  4. Access the
    Find Student Charge Items
     report.
    1. In the
      Name
       field, enter
      Tuition - Tiered
      . Leave everything else blank.
    2. Click
      OK
      .
    3. From the related actions menu of the
      Tuition - Tiered
       charge item, select
      Student Charge Item
       >
      Edit
      .
    4. Delete the entry in the
      Charge Calculation
       field.
    5. In the
      Charge Proration
       field, select
      Charge Adjustment Schedule Group
      , and then select
      RBF Fall 2023 for Alma Mater University
      .
    6. Click
      OK
       and
      Done
      .
  5. Calculate overload fees for students registered for more than 18 units.
  6. Access the
    Create Student Registration-Based Fee
     task.
    1. Enter these values:

       section.
    3. For part-time students with less than 12 registered units, enter these values:

    4. In the Create Arithmetic Calculation prompt, enter these values:

    Maintain Student Registration-Based Fee Assignments
     task.

Registration-based fees are now available in the
Transaction Summary
 report on the Student Financials Summary profile group of your student's profile page.
Test your registration-based fee calculations to ensure that your institution is charging its students correct registration-based fee amounts.
