Concept: Attributes and Segments
Attributes and their segments enable you to create an employee structure for meaningful data
analysis and account management. With attributes and segments, you can:
- Compare segment scores.
- Create segment hierarchies.
- Enable Peakon to highlight segments with difference to benchmark.
- Target questions, surveys, and access groups with segments.
- Provide users access to specific segments.
You can think of an attribute as the category, and a segment as an option within the category.
Example: The Department attribute might contain Finance, Marketing, Sales as segment
options. An employee who has Marketing listed in the Department field of their employee
record has their survey results contributing to the Marketing segment.
Attributes can also be useful for more administrative purposes, and hidden from the dashboard
view by restricting them in the settings. Examples:
- Contract typeto include or exclude certain groups from surveys.
- Survey method(email versus kiosk) to send the right survey type to each employee.
- Shift type(day versus night) to target a separate survey in a different shift time.
- Manager accessto split managers into segments based on the access that they need, which you can use to target access groups.
Only administrators can create, delete, and configure attributes and segments. Clicking on a
specific attribute reveals its segments. A progress bar displays how many more segments
you can add before reaching account limit.
When creating or configuring your attributes, make sure that the attribute name is an
exact match (case sensitive) to the relevant field in your HR system. You can edit the
name of an attribute or add an Alias to it, so that the system can recognize it
regardless during an import.
You can create each custom attribute manually. You can add segments to an attribute manually,
or through an employee data upload, after creating the attribute. When Peakon sees a new
value in the column of the attribute, it creates a new segment in the system. To
populate an existing segment, the segment name on the data file must be an exact match
(case sensitive) to the name on Peakon.
