Concept: Combination Attributes

Combination attributes enable organizations to combine 2 option type attributes to create intersecting segments automatically. You can benefit from combination attributes to report on more nuanced demographic data, which you might not have outside Peakon. Example:

Setting up combination attributes between 2 option type attributes.
You can use any option type attribute to create a combination attribute.
Setting up combination attributes between an option type and date/number/employee type attribute.
It isn’t possible to use these attribute types for combination attributes. You have to use a manual approach to create and maintain such an attribute.
Setting up combination attributes between 2 restricted attributes.
Peakon restricts the resulting combination attribute automatically.
Setting up combination attributes between 2 consent-requiring attributes.
Peakon restricts the resulting combination attribute automatically.
Setting a combination attribute as the parent attribute in a hierarchy.
Peakon sets the combination attribute as the child attribute of the 2 main attributes used. Example: You created a combination attribute between
Country
 and
Local Office
. The
Office x Local Office
 attribute is a child attribute of both
Country
 and
Local Office
.
It’s also possible to set parent attributes to the combination attribute, however the combination attribute itself can't be a parent attribute in a hierarchy.

Assigning a segment from a combination attribute to a manager.
You can assign segments from a combination attribute to managers.
Viewing a segment from a combination attribute in the heat map.
Segments of combination attributes are visible in the heat map to leaders who have employees in those segments. You can restrict the attribute to avoid it displaying in the heat map.

Maintenance Considerations

Automatically updating a combination attribute with new employee changes.
As you update employee data in the 2 original attributes, the combination attribute automatically creates segments or updates existing segments. It isn’t possible to edit segments of combination attributes manually.
Backdating employee data in a segment from a combination attribute.
Backdating data in the original segments has an effect on the relevant segment in the combination attribute.

Examples

  • A local finance leader manages the Finance business unit in Germany, but doesn't have any reporting lines. Giving them access to
    Finance (Department)
     or
    Germany (Country)
    segments would display employees outside of their area, so either option isn’t ideal. You can set up a combination attribute between
    Business Unit
    and
    Country
    , and assign the
    Finance in Germany
     segment to the leader.
  • The diversity and inclusion consultant wants to understand how the engagement experience differs by ethnicity in different countries and departments. You’ve restricted the
    Ethnicity
     attribute. You can set up 2 combination attributes:
    Ethnicity by Countr
    y, and
    Ethnicity by Department
    . By using a restricted attribute, the combination attributes automatically inherit the same data access settings. It's not possible to unrestrict the combination attribute.
