Summary of User Guide Changes - Worksheets

This table describes updates to the User Guide within the past year. We update the User Guide when new features impact the product user interface and when editorial changes improve content quality.

This page is intended to be a summary of content changes in the User Guide, and is not a full list of new features. If a new feature results in a change to only the Administrator Guide content, that change isn't described here.

May 2023	Feature-related changes: Concept: Searching in Workbooks: Updated to mention that when you select a range of cells before opning the Find dialog, Worksheets preserves your selection and opens the Find Options dialog. Other notable changes (clarifications and additions related to existing functionality): NOTIFYIF and NOTIFYIFS: Added information about the subset of HTML tags that Worksheets supports. Reference: Workbook Limits: Added that Advanced reports time out after 30 minues.
April 2023	Feature-related changes: Updated Reference: Worksheets Keyboard Shortcuts: (New) Show All Formulas: Ctrl+` (Windows and Mac) (New) Clear Formatting: Ctrl+\ (Windows), Command+\ (Mac) (Updated) Close Dialog (when in full-screen mode): Alt+` (Windows and Mac) Other notable changes (clarifications and additions related to existing functionality): Add Live Data from Workday Reports to Workbooks: Noted that creating a live data area as static isn't available if you added a Notes column or a formula column. Concept: Searching in Workbooks: The Find field has a 1000 character limit. Reference: Worksheets-Unique Functions: As a best practice, use absolute references in Worksheets-unique functions wherever possible to minimize the use of system resources. Concept: Uploading and Downloading Workbooks: Data validation isn't supported for workbooks downloaded to Excel. QUARTILE, QUARTILE.EXC, QUARTILE.INC: These functions ignore the units portion of a value if it exists.
March 2023	Feature-related changes: Added Concept: Structured References in Workbooks. Updated these topics to add information about structured references: Add Live Data from Workday Reports to Workbooks Concept: Live Data in Workbooks Concept: Editing Live Data Columns Before Refreshing Create and Edit Pivot Tables in Workbooks Updated Add Live Data from Workday Reports to Workbooks to describe the new Column Options menu for changing a column's display name or adding data formatting, and to describe the new Determine Value Dynamically option for date prompts. Updated Reference: Worksheets Keyboard Shortcuts to add the Alt shortcut for accessing the KeyTips user interface overlay. (Removed Preview identifier) Updated Schedule Automatic Live Data Refreshes to describe automatic pausing of a scheduled live data refresh if an associated report times out 3 times.
February 2023	Feature-related changes: (Preview only) Updated Schedule Automatic Live Data Refreshes to describe automatic pausing of a scheduled live data refresh if an associated report times out 3 times. Other notable changes: Updated NOTIFYIF and NOTIFYIFS to clarify that a notification is sent if a value in the specified criterion changes to meet a condition. Corrected the text in INDIRECT to state that only the A1 style is supported. Updated SELECT to clarify that when doing an operation on date values, Worksheets calculations treat dates as serial numbers.
December 2022	Feature-related changes: Updated Create and Edit Pivot Tables in Workbooks to describe the new formatting option. Other notable changes: In Concept: Searching in Workbooks, corrected the maximum number of replacements that you can do to 10,000.
November 2022	Feature-related changes: Updated Concept: Searching in Workbooks for the new find and replace feature. Updated Create Charts in Workbooks to mention new font and color options in the chart configuration panel. Added topics for 14 new text- and array-management functions: CHOOSECOLS CHOOSEROWS DROP EXPAND TAKE TEXTAFTER TEXTBEFORE TEXTSPLIT HSTACK VSTACK TOCOL TOROW WRAPCOLS WRAPROWS Other notable changes: Updated the information on resizing columns to mention that you can type 2 digits to the right of the decimal, to match the corrected user interface. Updated the Fill from Above Cell shortcut for Mac (Alt+F6) to match the corrected user interface. Added a note that live data update schedules expire after 1 year at most.
October 2022	Feature-related changes: Added information about renaming pivot tables. Added information about these functions: WD.EXCHANGE (New) WD.HALFTOFULL (New) WD.FULLTOHALF (New) HYPERLINK (Updated) URL (Updated) Other notable changes: Added information about the character limit in individual cells in the topic Reference: Workbook Limits.
September 2022	Feature-related changes: Added information related to the new pivot table design, includingusing the Show Details context menu option, and using the Copy Pivot Data Formula context menu option. See Create and Edit Pivot Tables in Workbooks. Updated the NOTIFYIF and NOTIFYIFS descriptions to add the limit of 1,000 notifications. Other notable changes: Added more tips to improve performance in the topic FAQ: Workbook Performance. Updated the image in the topic Concept: Creating Reports to Insert into Workbooks. Added an example of using an array of users in the NOTIFYIF function. Added a statement that workbook template distribution is supported only for unconstrained security groups, and the groups need to be enabled for sharing in Drive. Added a "Concept:" prefix to concept topic titles, and adjusted the topic order to follow the pattern of concept topics first, then task topics, then reference and other topic types.
July 2022	Transitioned the Workday User Guide from PDF to HTML format. Corrected the syntax for specifying a list of values when defining a data validation. Updated external reference details, to describe that Worksheets updates external references when a user becomes inactive or loses access to producer/consumer workbooks.
June 2022	Added a reference topic that lists all Worksheets functions, sorted by category. Updated pivot table information based on the improved user interface. Updated information for the AGGREGATE, CELL, and HYPERLINK functions. Added the #FIELD! error to the topic Reference: Formula Errors.
May 2022	Added the topic Reference: Workbook Limits, including the new 20 million cell limit and existing limits.
March 2022	2022R1 base version. Added information about editing live data columns.
